About This Blend
The Classic Apothecary Collection draws from the heart of the Western herbal tradition. These five herbs have been staples of apothecaries, folk healers, and home herbalists for centuries — each one time-tested, deeply nourishing, and endlessly useful. Together they form a foundational blend that supports the whole body with quiet, steady care.
What's Inside
- Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) — A deeply nourishing root with a mild, earthy sweetness. Long used as a nutritive tonic and gentle ally for liver and lymphatic health. Adds body and depth to the blend.
- Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica) — One of the most mineral-rich herbs available, nettle is a true nutritive powerhouse. High in iron, calcium, and silica, it forms the green, nourishing backbone of this collection.
- Marigold (Calendula) (Calendula officinalis) — Cheerful golden petals with a gentle, slightly resinous flavor. A classic apothecary herb prized for its support of skin, digestion, and lymphatic circulation.
- Raspberry Leaf (Rubus idaeus) — Mild and pleasantly astringent with a flavor reminiscent of black tea. A beloved tonic herb with a long history of use as a nutritive and restorative tea.
- Mullein Leaf (Verbascum thapsus) — Soft, velvety leaves with a mild, slightly sweet flavor. A traditional respiratory herb, mullein is soothing to the throat and lungs and adds a gentle, neutral base to the blend.
How to Blend
For a balanced, nourishing daily tonic, start with these proportions:
- 3 parts Nettle Leaf
- 2 parts Raspberry Leaf
- 2 parts Mullein Leaf
- 1 part Burdock Root
- 1 part Calendula
Note: Because burdock root is denser than the leaf herbs, consider decocting it separately for 15 minutes before adding the remaining herbs to steep. Alternatively, use finely cut burdock for better extraction in a standard infusion. Store in an airtight jar away from light and moisture — keeps well for up to 12 months.
Preparation Directions
Standard Infusion: Use 1–2 teaspoons of blend per 8 oz of just-boiled water. Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes. Strain well and drink plain or with a touch of honey. Excellent as a daily nourishing tea.
Nourishing Long Infusion: Add 1 oz of blend (about 1 cup loosely packed) to a quart jar. Fill with boiling water, cap tightly, and steep for 4–8 hours or overnight. Strain and drink throughout the day. This method draws out a deeper range of minerals — especially from nettle, raspberry leaf, and mullein.
Blended Decoction: For maximum extraction from the burdock root, simmer the root alone in 3 cups of water for 15–20 minutes. Remove from heat, add the remaining herbs, cover, and steep an additional 10 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm. Rich, earthy, and deeply nourishing.
