Styrax (Liquidambar orientalis, also called Balsam styracis, Levant Styrax, Storax, or Sweetgum, Family: Hamamelidaceae) is a steam-distilled resin essential oil from Turkey. Used since antiquity, this balsamic oil is both aromatic and food safe in moderation.
Aroma
Sweet, resinous, and balsamic with warm vanilla-like and leathery undertones.
Traditional Use
Historically valued in incense, perfumery, and ceremonial blends, styrax has also been used as a flavoring and aromatic fixative.
Benefits
It brings a warm, grounding depth to perfumes, incense, and therapeutic blends.
How to Prepare & Use
Diffuse: Add 2–4 drops for a warm, resinous aroma.
Topical: Dilute to 1–2% in carrier oil for body or massage oils.
Culinary: Food safe in very small amounts for flavoring.
Storage Tip
Keep tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dark place. May thicken over time—warm gently to loosen.
Safety Note
Food safe in moderation. Always dilute before applying to skin.
